Frequently Asked Questions > Immigration > Visit / Transit - Mainland Residents Holding a Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao

Question:
I enter Macao with my Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao. However, the limit of stay is too short and not enough for me to stay in Macao for leisure. Can I apply for an extension of my limit of stay (or the validity of the visa)?
Answer:
According to Item 2, Term 1, Article 10 of Administrative Regulation No. 38/2021, the validity of the Macao Authorization to Stay granted by the Border Control Department is based on the limit of stay indicated on the endorsement for Macao attached to a Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao. Therefore, if you want to extend your Macao Authorization to Stay, you need to apply to the relevant immigration department on the Mainland for a new endorsement for Macao first. Then the Border Control Department will extend your Macao Authorization to Stay according to the limit of stay indicated on the new endorsement for Macao. If a person holding a Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao is unable to leave Macao because of force majeure reasons (e.g. hospitalized owing to traffic accident), exception will be made at the discretion of the Public Security Police Force.
