Frequently Asked Questions > Immigration > “Smart Immigration Clearance” (Document-free Immigration Clearance) Measures Applied to Joint Inspection Automated Channels Launched at Hengqin Port

Question:
Are passengers required to carry the original identity document when using the “Smart Immigration Clearance” (Document-free Immigration Clearance) service?
Answer:
When using the “Smart Immigration Clearance” at the “joint inspection automated channels”, passengers are not required to take the initiative to present their physical identity document for clearance. However, during the clearance they must be in possession of it, if the physical identity document is required for inspection, as necessary, by the frontier inspection officers.
For instance, if the passengers’ fingerprint- or face-verification failed, they should present their physical identity document for clearance to the on-site police officers for authentication. Clearance will be permitted only after identity information is authenticated.
