Question:
Can I present the “My border crossing” QR code on my mobile device only without bringing my physical Resident Identity Card for immigration clearance?
Answer:
The “My border crossing” QR code can be used for immigration clearance in Macao, but it should be noted that the “Electronic Identity” or “My border crossing” service is only auxiliary to the physical Resident Identity Card. A person should bring his/her physical Resident Identity Card for immigration clearance because:
1.
the physical Resident Identity Card is still required to be presented for immigration clearance when a clearance device breaks down unexpectedly and fails to read the “My border crossing” QR code;
2.
the physical Resident Identity Card is required for returning to Macao from the Mainland via a three-gate automated channel;
3.
the physical Resident Identity Card is also required for immigration clearance in Hong Kong after departure from Macao.
